What is the All Clad Programmable Slow Cooker?

There are a myriad of slow cooker models out there with prices ranging from relatively cheap and basic models with limited features and no programmes, to high end models with all the bells and whistles. How do you choose one that’s right for your particular needs?

This review for the All Clad 6.5 quart model SD700450 Slow Cooker with Ceramic Insert will definitely help you make your decision about which features are important to you when buying a slow cooker.

Manufactured by All Clad, an American company known for it’s well-built products, some of its features include:

  • It’s a good-looking, well-designed model with vintage industrial styling, from the oval shape to the solidly riveted handles on the stainless steel body.
  • The liner is manufactured from black ceramic featuring integrated handles for easy grip.

Who is the All Clad Programmable slow cooker for?

After a long day at work you can come home to a ready prepared meal using the easily programmable features of this slow cooker. Simply prepare the ingredients in the morning before you leave home, set the timer, and off you go.

This unit will slow cook food perfectly while you are busy at work or out running errands. Your food stays at an ideal “keep warm” temperature after cooking, ready to serve when you arrive home.

The actual cooking time of your dish may have completed during the afternoon and with other slow cookers this means you’ll need to re heat the food once you get home. However, with this slow cooker, the keep warm feature means your food will be ready when you arrive home and all you need to do is serve it up. No need to use other cookware to re heat the food means less washing up…. yeah!

The slow cooker’s black ceramic insert lifts out of the base, and is good-looking enough to use at the table for serving. Together with the lid it can go in the dishwasher, for quick cleanup.

With its polished stainless-steel body and large 6.5 quart capacity, the All Clad slow cooker not only presents well, but it’s also the perfect size to feed a family or a group of people when entertaining.

I bought a slow cooker when I became interested in making my own healthy bone broth. Get an easy recipe for bone broth here. The size of this All Clad cooker can easily accommodate a couple of chicken carcasses and several chicken feet, or some larger beef bones along with vegetables for nutritious broth making.

As bone broth requires a long cooking time at slow heat, the All Clad slow cooker’s programmable features are ideal. It’s not always convenient to be home to take care of a pot simmering on the stove top, particularly when it needs to cook for 20 hours or so. Using this slow cooker means you can programme it and forget it, as it cooks the broth slowly at a safe, even and reliable temperature.

Of course, it’s not only bone broth that slow cookers are great for. I’ve also used mine to make fantastic stews, flavorful osso bucco, delicious casseroles, melt in the mouth pork ribs as well as nutritious soups. This slow cooker turns cheaper cuts of meat into nutritious, delicious meals. It’s really a very convenient and easy way of cooking. With very little effort all your meals can turn out deliciously perfect.

Another important feature that I was particularly looking for in a slow cooker was the ceramic liner. I especially didn’t want with a coated non-stick finish. Having recently started swapping all of my cookware from unhealthy coated non-stick versions to healthier options made this slow cooker a great choice for me.

How much does the All Clad 6.5 quart model SD700450 slow cooker with Ceramic insert cost?

This is not one of the cheaper slow cookers on the market, check out the current price at Amazon below. It’s also not the most expensive slow cooker out there either. I think considering the materials used, and the programmable features of this slow cooker, it is well worth the money.

All Clad 6.5 quart model SD700450 slow cooker with Ceramic insert Pros and Cons

PROS

  • Easily programmable from 4 to 20 hours.

  • Healthier ceramic liner rather than coated non-stick.
  • Glass lid for easy monitoring of the cooking process.

  • Easy to clean.
  • Riveted handles on the exterior make it easy to grip.
  • Ceramic liners sold separately if a replacement is needed.

  1. Wow this would be perfect for me to cook with a busy schedule! Are you sure it is okay to leave cooking if I am away from the house for the day working? I could make so many amazing things with this for my family but I am worried about a fire or other catastrophe happening while I am away!

Thank you for your expert review!

    • Hi Hudson

The first slow cooker was invented in the 1940’s but was later redeveloped in the 1970’s and marketed under the name ‘Crockpot’, so they’ve been around a long time. They cook at a very low temperature and are safe. However you should fill only up to 3/4 of the way to prevent food bubbling up and potentially overflowing out of the cooker. I used mine recently, went out for the day was out longer than usual and actually forgot about my slow cooker. When I arrived home ( to the appetizing smell of beautiful beef stew) the cooker had switched to the warm function and dinner was ready to plate up.

  3. Hello Ann, I have used quite a number of cookers in my house and I only have to change them when I accidentally break the cover. Usingva quality cooker that matches your kind of lifestyle is one thing I look forward to, and being a busy person, such cooker would make so much sense for me to use since I’m always too tired to cook after work. How do I know the exact time it will take a meal to cook if I’m to leave it in the cooker and o to work?

  9. Hello there,

Thank you for sharing this review of all clad programmable slow cooker and poof if actually okay for the money?

I love the concept of this cooker, interesting!

Personally, I love the design of this cooker; it looks classic and modern. The black ceramic insert when lifted out really looks cool as you said, good for serving at the dinning table.

This cooker is very smart , but I think the price tag on it is a lil bit high.

    • Thanks for your comment, the All Clad Slow Cooker is a little more expensive than some and definitely more expensive than many with a non stick liner. I for one was happy to pay more for this model with a ceramic liner.

  10. Good Job on the review, it was quite interesting what you had to say about the product, and seeing that this one is a good one I might consider getting one for myself. I always wanted to buy one of those slow cookers. But I wanted a really good one and your suggestion seems like one I might consider getting. Thanks again.

  11. Hello!

Thanks for showing us a good example of technologized cooking!

The Clad Slow Cooker has a nice look, offers a lot of features and gives flexibility in choosing how to cook and how fast to start eating – keeping the food warm for no less than six hours means that if we got something else to do in the meantime, then we wouldn’t have to rush and quit it just because “the food is cooling”. Of course it’s designed for some more sophisticated foods (aka not very fast) since it is named as Slow Cooker, but overall, it enables people to cook in a modern way.

Thanks again for sharing and have good luck with programmable cooking!

  12. Awesome review! I love the simplicity at which you write. I’ve only had this product for about three weeks as a gift from one of my students , and it has certainly proved itself now as my new favorite kitchen appliance. I have had none of the connectivity issues that others describe. Setup was easy and worked fine.

    Regards.
