What Is The Hydro Flask 21oz Double Wall Vacuum Insulated Stainless Steel Sports Water Bottle?

It’s a well-designed insulated sports water bottle that offers a healthy alternative to plastic water bottles. Made from food grade stainless steel and non-toxic BPA free plastic with a hard wearing outer powder coated finish.

The double walled vacuum insulation, “TempShield” keeps drinks hot for up to 12 hours, and cold for up to 24 hours. I live in a tropical climate and can attest to the outstanding insulation qualities of this water bottle. It keeps iced water icy cold all day here and usually I finish the water before all of the ice melts.

There’s nothing worse if you live in a hot climate or participate in sweaty sports to take a swig out of your water bottle and the contents are no longer chilled and sometimes even warm…… yuck!

Powder coating on the outside of the bottle provides a slip free grip on the bottle. Due to the great insulation quality, there’s no condensation on the outside of the water bottle adding to its non-slip quality.

The size of this water bottle is ideal to fit conveniently into your vehicle’s cup holder for taking drinks with you on long road trips. It also fits easily into your bike bottle rack for keeping hydrated on your weekend cycle ride.

This model comes with a sports style straw lid which is easy to flip open for use.  A handy finger loop on the lid  makes it easy to clip the Hydro Flask onto the outside of your sports bag or backpack when hiking.

Whether you are on a mountain trail, in your morning yoga class or driving along the freeway the Hydro Flask with sports cap makes taking a drink using one handed easy.

As this particular Hydro Flask model is designed as a sports water bottle, the sports lid is better suited to using for cold drinks. This sports style straw lid is also not completely leak proof, so make sure you stand it upright if placed inside your bag.

You can choose from 6 great colors, Black, Pacific, Mint, Lava, Flamingo and Olive, so you’re bound to find a color to suit you whether you’re male, female young or young at heart.

Color coordinate it to your gym, cycling or hiking gear. Give each family member a different color, and there will be no more arguments about who lost their sports water bottle.

Who Is The Hydro Flask 21oz Double Wall Vacuum Insulated Stainless Steel Water Bottle For?

If you have concerns that you could potentially be ingesting toxic chemicals that leach from plastic bottles you’re probably on the look out for a healthier alternative. The interior of the Hydro Flask is made from food grade stainless steel.

Long known and used as a safe option for food containers and cookware, food grade stainless steel makes this Hydro Flask a great healthy alternative to plastic.

If you need further information about how ingesting toxins from plastic has a detrimental effect on health click here. As well as the health benefits, the money you save from no longer buying bottled water will pay for the Hydro Flask many times over. Simply fill your Hydro Flask with filtered tap water for a way healthier option.

You may also be thinking of the negative effect all those plastic bottles have on the environment. The movement towards reducing single use plastic is heating up, and with good cause. Research shows that by 2050 the oceans of the world will contain more plastic by weight than fish. That is a completely astonishing statistic.

In the case of plastic water bottles, it is known that only one in six water bottles ends up in the recycling bin, with the remainder being added to landfill.

All those plastic bottles end up as rubbish, polluting land, lakes, rivers and the ocean. And the really bad news is that due to their chemical composition plastic bottles take several hundreds of years to breakdown, so that’s a few lifetimes. Horrible, when you think of the legacy we are leaving to not only your children but several generations of their children too.

Whether you have health concerns or environmental concerns, refusing to buy overpriced water in plastic bottles ever again is a good idea.

  1. I actually already have one of these, I take it almost everywhere I go and it’s held out pretty great. I buy these types of water bottles for the very reason you shown, there are just too many plastic bottles and other trash covering the planet. And most of everyone has a refrigerator that dispenses ice and water, so there is almost no excuse to keep buying plastic water bottles, and on top of that you save money. Would recommend.

  2. Hi Ann, thanks for this post. Actually I own one of this hydro flask water bottle. Ever since I got to know how hazardous the plastic water bottle is to the environment and the fact that it would just keep littering the environment, I decided to opt for a more suitable option and I got to this hydroflask. I agree with you concerning all the pros you’ve listed. I particularly like the fact that it can sustain my water degree for some hours. As a football player, I like to keep my water cold should in case I need to take it anytime during the game. Thanks

  3. I buy an average of two bottles per day of bottled drinking water, and usually they are in plastics as it is cheaper and more affordable for companies here in the Philippines to just use plastic bottles. This article of yours made me aware of the danger and the need to have one of these insulated sports water bottle. I’ll buy one for myself.

  4. Dear Ann,

Thanks a lot for another informative and helpful review post.

In the part of the world where I live, the government banned the plastic bags and there are rumors they might ban plastic water bottles as well. However, as we all know plastic water bottles are not good for health I was looking for some alternatives and found your insightful review.

I too live in the hottest part of the world (India) and its very hot here 43-47 degrees Celsius (Summer). So Hydro Flask Water Bottle keeps cold for 24 hours is an awesome news and great reason to buy this water bottle. I am a cricketer and I go for Hiking once in a month so I think this water bottle will be a greater help.

The pros, cons and the features you shared is very helpful in making my purchase decision. The price is bit expensive but the life time warranty is great.

I loved how easy the review makes it for readers and no additional research needed. You left no stone up-turned in explaining all details.

    Wishing you great success!

  5. Great review – thanks. I’ve been looking for a decent water bottle for while. My cheapie versions have a real problem in cleaning and seem to develop mold very quickly so finding something with food grade aluminium is great. Price seems reasonable as well. The other big plus for me with this product is the whole plastic thing. I don’t want to get too fanatical about ti but if we can all avoid perpetuating the use of plastic even one bottle at a time that’s got to be a good thing. Thanks for your review and I’ll click through to buy shortly.  By the way what’s “pacific” as a color?

    • Thanks for your comment. I couldn’t agree more, we all need to be more aware of the mountains of plastic we are creating every single day. Most people just aren’t aware. Pacific is a blue colour.

  6. I think it’s really cool that this bottle is made from stainless steel yet is well insulated enough to keep drinks cold for up to 24 hours.

But what really sets this insulated sports water bottle apart from competitors is that they offer a lifetime warranty… to me this alone is an excellent reason anyone should buy this bottle.

I plan to buy this water bottle in the near future, as even though it’s not completely leak proof it keeps drink hot or cold it seems very well which is what I’m looking for.

  7. If anything is a total selling point on this water bottle, it’s those pictures of the garbage we produce with our ridiculous plastic bottles.  OMG that’s just horrific.  I really do try to not buy water in those individual bottles.  If anything, I buy Spring water in gallon jugs (which, honestly, probably aren’t that much better, but I always recycle them).  The other thing I do is use a pitcher with a filter and then use tap water, filter it and refill my water bottles that way.  This bottle is really nice, and I like that it keeps the water cold for an extended period of time.  That’s a big benefit to me.

    • Hi and thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment. Unfortunately even if you do the right thing by placing your plastic goods in the recycling bin a woefully small quantity of plastic in the world actually gets recycled which is why so much of it ends up in landfill, rivers, lakes and the ocean.

  8. Hey Ann.  This is great.  It looks like a really high quality product, and I really want to buy one.

It does bother me how much plastic pollution ends up in our lakes and rivers.  More people need to pull their heads from between their you-know-whats and stop throwing plastic away.  Products like this are great for the environment and I’d certainly like to see more of this out there.  I’ll do what I can to share this with others for that purpose.

    Thanks for the info!!

    • Thanks very much for your comment, it seems you are already all over the ‘too much plastic’ issue. This insulated flask is not only good for the environment, it does a great job of keeping your water cool on hot days too. Thanks for sharing this info with others too.

  9. It’s very informative. Generally, I love topics about sustainable development and discussing the importance of buying these kinds of sports water bottles to support an environmental cause is a great way to be of help to the advocates around the world.

As a content writer or a blogger, promoting these kinds of products instead of a bunch of crap that destroys our environment is a great initiative for me. Kudos. The author did a great job. Keep it up. 🙂

  10. Here in our country, school opening is coming up pretty soon. Until now, i haven’t bought water bottles for my 2 kids. Their school is also banning plastic bottles because they do practice EMS at school. I think these types of flask should be introduced in school even if they follow a certain EMS program or not. For one, the temperature stays the same. Kids can drink cold refreshing water any time of the day. Another thing is that it’s safe for the environment. I think people should not compare its price to a plastic bottle and opt to choose the latter. We should always think of durability and functionality. Let’s help save the environment!

  11. This truly feels like my kinda flask. Keeping cold water chilly for 24 hours that’s beyond what’s needed for me personally, but I’ll take it every time of the day. And it might even be for longer than that as I’m not really of too hot of a place. 2 days maybe? 🙂

That said, I absolutely agree, there is nothing worse than a warm, somewhat slimy water when you need something to chill down. Which does bring me to the other point you were making about the toxic chemicals that we are probably ingesting due to the use of plastic bottles.

I swear to God, that water is often times undrinkable purely due to the fact that it feels slippy/slimy. Vehh… I wonder why they’re still selling water that way. Oh, yes, because it’s cheap and most people are completely unaware of the potential health issues. Furthermore, manufacturers are only interested in profit. They rarely care about anything else.

That research for 2050 is just stupid. What’s worse, I bet most people don’t even care. But I appreciate you (from the bottom of my heart for sharing this message).

Cheers, and have a Great One!

    • Hi and thanks for visiting my site. Unfortunately you are correct when you say, ‘most people don’t even care’. I’d love to see the ditch single use plastic movement really take hold, but it seems changes like this take a long time for the general population and manufacturers to get to grips with.. sigh!

  12. Hi Ann,

Drinking more water is something that I should do throughout the day! I drink far too much coffee and tea. I read your article on Chronic Fatigue, and I want to do something about my constant tiredness.

One thing that concerns me about these bottles is hygiene.

How easy is it to keep these bottles clean?

What is the best way to clean these bottles?

Sometimes I have opened a bottle, and it smells terrible inside. I wouldn’t want to drink out of it.

How do I clean a bottle like this and remove the odour?

    Many thanks for your help.

    Paul.

    • Thanks for leaving a comment. If you are using your stainless steel bottle for tea or coffee, rather than for water make sure you empty and wash the bottle after each use. Don’t allow your bottle to sit for a couple of days in a hot car with a drink still in it. Clean it each time with hot soapy water and a bottle brush to remove any residue then air dry the bottle.

  13. Really nice article, I tried to find the best water bottle because I don’t like to use a plastic bottle and I think this hydro flask water bottle will be best and I like the bottle outlook and colour. It is nice to have this hydro flask my daily use and I definitely need to try this because it is better and safe than the plastic bottles.

Thank you for sharing such useful information. Good job, keep on.

  14. I like this water bottle, I hope it has different sizes to choose from not only 21oz. We really need a bottle that retains the freshness and coldness of the water for our emergency use. I think the stainless bottle has no negative effect on us and this is better than plastic bottles.

For better life and health I choose this water bottle against other bottles.

    • Thanks for leaving a comment. Yes there are other sizes as well as different type of lid/top available by the same Hydro Flask brand. You can but some of the lids individually too allowing you to customize your bottle for your particular needs.

  15. I have had vacuum sealed food containers before and they work amazingly well so there is no doubt in my mind that this insulated sports water bottle would work equally good. I have never heard of hydro flask water bottle before but I really like both the look of this one and the fact that it keeps your drink cold for up to 24 hours. Another great benefit is that it does not contain plastic, which can be considered amazing with all the pollution happening today.

The only thing that concerns me with this bottle is that it might leak a little, do you think that is something that can be fixed by using your lifetime warranty that comes with the product?

Thank you for a great review on the hydro flask water bottle.

    • Thanks for stopping by, I think it’s highly unlikely the actual bottle would leak. In my review I mention that this particular sports style straw lid is not completely leak proof if you lie it down in a bag. If this is a concern you could always buy a flask with the standard lid which is leak proof if stored on its side.

  16. So, with four children, I dread to think how many plastic bottle we have gone through over the years. With concern over plastics being in the forefront of most people minds (or should be) at the moment, it is good to find an alternative. I was not aware of the ‘toxic’ issue within the standard bulk style of water drink containers. This article has bought my attention to it and now would be an even better time to act on that advice. I remember it was many years before I realised that the old fashioned ‘thermos’ flasks could be used to store cold liquids, sounds silly now, I know. This modern design and ergonomic features make it an ideal solution on many levels.

I’m a sport man and i have used different types of this bottle. one most important thing I love about the bottle is it ability to maintain the temperature of water in it. I also appreciate the fact that it is build with straw on it for easy use.
