Putting It All Together – Slow Cooker Tips
- Make sure you read all the instructions for your slow cooker before using it.
- Do not put the ceramic insert in the microwave, on the stove top or in the oven unless the instructions say it is safe. If you do, you risk it breaking from being exposed to high heat.
- You cannot brown meat in a slow cooker unless the instructions say you can. You will have to brown it in a separate skillet before putting it into the slow cooker.
- Do not remove the lid from the slow cooker during the cooking process, this keeps moisture and flavor in your food.
- Avoid overfilling the cooker. You will usually only be able to fill it to two thirds full. Check your instruction manual if you are not sure.
- A slow cooker’s insert can crack when exposed to rapid temperature changes. Do not put it on to a cold counter without putting it on a tea towel first. Make sure it has cooled down before putting it into the refrigerator. Before heating it up again, let it warm up to room temperature after taking it out of the refrigerator.
Slow cookers are fantastic time saving devices that you can use to make delicious, healthy food. Always check the warranties on the brands that interest you as they vary from limited 12-month warranties to unlimited. Make sure you buy one that suits you and the size of your family.
As always , please leave a comment or any queries below.
I actually have 2 crockpots, one has a ceramic insert and the other doesn’t (my Ninja). I use the one without ceramic interior more, but now you have me reconsidering. I know you’re right about nontoxic cookware and have asked for stainless steel cookware for Christmas specifically to get long lasting nontoxic cookware myself. Not sure why I wouldn’t apply this to crockpots! I don’t use my ceramic interior one as much because it runs really hot (even on low) and can burn things. I wonder if that can be fixed or if I need to look into one of these options you suggested.
Hi Holly thanks for leaving a comment. Stainless steel cookware for Christmas sounds good. My next post is for healthy water bottles and I intend to buy a few for family members’ Christmas pressies. I have the All Clad slow cooker mentioned in the post and find it really good, don’t have any issues with it being too hot and burning food. I wonder if there is some issue with yours, slow cookers should definitely not get too hot on a low setting.
Hello Ann,
I have long been aware of the benefits of slow cookers and how convenient they can be for people who need to prepare their own meals but are short on time.
I have a fear of them though that has prevented me from purchasing one. Visions of food exploding all over the ceiling fill my mind when I revisit this topic with the view to purchase one. What improvements have been made to make people more at ease, especially those that have an illogical fear of them?
THanks for your assistance.
Rich
Hi Richard thanks for stopping by. Honestly you made me laugh with your comments about food exploding all over the place, I can’t imagine that happening due to the very low temperature and slow cooking method. Now, if you’re talking about pressure cookers, that’s a whole other thing……those I definitely have a fear of. I had one in the 70’s and just never did got comfortable with the idea of it. I used it a handful of time before throwing it away!
I am a huge fan of crock pots / slow cookers. I have two, both 6 quarts and they are both ceramic. It’s good to know that is also a healthier choice for cookware. I wasn’t really aware of that feature before reading your post. But I love the great taste of the food done in a slow cooker.
Out of the ones you featured the one that interest me the most is the 6 Quart WEMO programmable smart Wi-Fi. If anything goes wrong with one of mine the Wi-Fi would be my replacement.
Thanks for the information.
V. Pearl
Hi Vanna thanks for the comment. I’m glad you also enjoy slow cooker cooking, it’s so easy. Yes the wifi enabled model offers even more versatility for selecting the cooking period etc., if you are away from home for an extended period of time.
These slow cookers seems to be pretty good value for the dollar. I checked them out on Amazon and they’re actually more affordable than I thought. I especially like the Hamilton Beach one and I think it’ll look really nice in my kitchen. I would love to come home from a long and cold winter work day to some hot stew and roast.
Thank you for writing this best of slow cookers review, the Hamilton Beach slow cooker is now one of the things at the top of my list since I do need one pretty soon.
Hi Kent thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment. I’m happy the article on best of slow cookers helped you come to a decision about which one is best for you. There’s nothing like coming home to a delicious and nutritious meal ready for you after a long day. Beats take away food any day!
Hello there, let Me say this is one of the wonderful article am reading on slow cooker, I have taking my time to read all through and my best all the five listed slow cooker is Crock-Pot 6 Quart WEMO Programmable Smart Wi-Fi Enabled Slow Cooker” probably because am engineer students, am much interested in the technology behind how it was connected to a WiFi and and control it anywhere in my home even with using an app I can monitor it

Great Content and InformationThanks for this concise and thorough article. I have been a fan of these slow cookers especially All Clad Programmable 6.5 Quart Slow Cooker With Ceramic Liner. This is one of the best slow cooker I have ever used in my life and I can confirm to you that it is highly durable and not too expensive.
I haven’t experienced Hamilton Beach 33957 5 Quart Programmable Slow Cooker but I have read about it and I am convinced its one of the best slow cookers. I hope to try others out anytime soon
Hi and thanks for your comments on the All Clad Programmable Slow cooker and the Hamilton Beach slow cooker. Both offer the added health benefit of having a ceramic liner which is great to add to slow cooking’s many health benefits.
Dear Ann,
Thanks for the article I really enjoyed it. I must say I found your post highly uplifting and educational.
This post means a lot to me because I know the importance of slow cooking and to be honest its because of you, few weeks before I read your post “Why Make Slow Cooker Healthy Meals?” and its an eye-opener. My wife and myself was thinking about slow cookers since then.
Thanks for providing thorough details on each of the slow cooker and it will be a greater help in our purchase decision. I am interested with “KitchenAid KSC6223SS 6-Qt. Slow Cooker with Standard Lid – Stainless Steel”. However I going to share your post with my wife.
Much Success!
Paul
Hi Paul thanks for stopping by and so glad my articles are helpful to you. It sounds like you already found one slow cooker that will suit you with the Kitchen Aid model, hope your wife agrees.
I make use of an instant pot, but I’ve heard about crock pots but never really researched about it. I just wondered why I would want to cook slower. After reading your article, it makes a lot of sense, because I can cook my meals even while I’m at work, and have it warm when I return.
The Crock-Pot 6 Quart WEMO would be my pick all day, because I can program it using its WiFi features. This means I can control my crock pot from my office, awesome!
Thanks for this article, found it very enlightening.
Hi Louis thanks for your comments. It looks like you’ve made a good choice, the extra functionality of the crockpot WEMO seems like it would be ideal.
Your instant pot can be used like a pressure cooker to cook very fast, so it’s the opposite of a slow cooker in many ways. However pressure cooking is also great for soups etc.
I must say there are many slow cookers on the market that I can’t call them fake but they are not up to standard. Why did I say that? My experience with the last slow cooker I bought is not a good one, I discovered that it consumes a lot of electricity in the cost of using it. That make me abandon using it. But looking at this list of the best slow cookers in your article I think I will like Hamilton Beach 33957 5 Quart Programmable Slow Cooker with all its features I will like to find out more about it.
Hi there, yes there are a lot of slow cookers on the market, however the majority use non stick liners which is the reason I decided to write this article on slow cookers with (healthier) ceramic liners.
It’s strange you say your previous slow cooker consumed a lot of energy because that is generally not the case. Slow cookers have energy saving abilities as they consume around 300 watts per hour of electricity compared to approximately 4000 watts per hour of a standard oven.
In addition you can save more money using a slow cooker by choosing cheaper cuts of meat which can be tenderized due to the slow cooking method. You can read more about the money saving and other benefits of slow cooking in my other article.
My mom had a slow cooker and I’d forgotten all about it until I read this. I’ve been trying to cook more at home, especially healthier stuff, so I could certainly benefit from getting one of these. I’m also a writer, so I tend to easily forget about things like food cooking on the stove and such. This would allow me to set a cook time for several hours, while continuing on with my work undisturbed. Great info! Thanks for sharing. I can get a better idea what I’m looking for this way.
Hi Mark, Thanks for stopping by my site. Yes, slow cookers were a big trend back in the day and as such some people think of them as a bit old fashioned now. However, they really are a great cooking tool for modern day healthy living. I use mine a lot to make healthy soups and stews that I can then batch freeze for later. In your case, as a writer a slow cooker would be a great cooking tool, simply prepare the ingredients in the morning, set them in the slow cooker, then forget about it and get on with your writing. By dinner time, you’ll have a healthy meal all ready for you.
Hi, Ann. You have reminded me of the days when we used to use a slow cooker. In fact, we still have one but, I have to say, they sure have come a long way from the early days. The one we have is ancient with one knob with 3 settings and is ceramic inside and out.
That said, it might be time for an upgrade especially when one considers how advanced the technology is now. So many more options.
I especially like the idea of having one that has a clip down lid with a gasket. We occasionally go to church staff get-togethers or pot licks. The Hamilton Beach unit would be perfect for that. Easy to transport and no spills. Does it only come in the one size or is there a smaller one? It’s just my wife and me so a smaller one would fit the bill nicely.
I suppose the Cuisinart would be a better choice but it doesn’t have the clip down lid. A bungee cord would probably work as an alternative.
I think we will have to resurrect the old one first and see if it still works. The idea of having something ready at the end of a long day out is very appealing and a side benefit to that, which I think you already mentioned, is that the meals are more nutritious because it’s all inside the pot. Almost nothing escapes.
Your post has motivated me to haul out the old guy. Thanks,
Wayne
Thanks for stopping by and so glad my post has prompted you to reconsider using a slow cooker again. It seems The Hamilton Beach models with the clip down lid and ceramic inserts are only made in bigger sizes. I guess this is due to the concept of it being easy to transport to larger gatherings where more food will be needed. You may need to go for one of the smaller models and a bungee cord LOL!
Hi Ann, your review on slow cooker is great. I didn’t know that slow cookers has been around as far back as 1970s. I remember seeing one of these cookers in my neighbour’s house the last time I visited. It was in her house that I learnt the wonderful benefits of using the cooker (she made soup with it that day). I have been on the look out for this product since I saw it in her house. One thing I love most about it, is that once you set the heat and timer, you can get yourself occupied with another chore. From the products you reviewed, I love the number two, Hamilton Beach 33957, basically because it is portable and can be used either in manual or automatic mode. Thanks for reviewing on these slow cookers. Now that I have seen what I like, I will definitely visit back to purchase through the link.
Hi Gracen thanks for stopping by and your kind words about my review. It seems slow cookers are having a bit of a comeback, probably due to people leading such busy lives these days. As you say you just set and forget it, then come back a few hours later, or home from work to a healthy, yummy meal, all ready to serve. Healthier and even more convenient than ringing for pizza delivery.
Hey Ann, Thanks for this review. I think everyone should have at least a slow cooker in their house. Why the benefits outweigh the cons. I hear so much myth concerning slow cooker and it is good someone like you still encourage people to go for it. You make great savings on electricity when you opt for slow cooker, besides you get the best flavor from your meal. As regards opting for a particular brand, I would advise every would-be buyer, I prefer the Kitchenaid KSC6223SS 6 Quart
Hi there and thanks for your comments. Sounds like you’ve already made your choice with the Kitchenaid 6 quart slow cooker with ceramic insert. It’s a great size slow cooker for family use.
I always enjoy reading all your reviews and this one is no exception because they are very helpful. This is the most extensive and comprehensive review i have read on All Clad Programmable Slow cooker and the Hamilton Beach slow cooker. I have also tested both of them and I can say they Both offer the added health benefit of having a ceramic liner. This is an eye opener especially for women that loves to cook. I hope to do another purchase anytime soon
Ola thanks for your kind words and I’m happy my reviews are useful. Nowadays I rarely make a purchase without consulting reviews, it just makes the process of choosing the right product for your needs that much quicker and easier. During the last few years I’ve been ‘detoxing’ all of my kitchenware and getting rid of all non stick cookware. Using a slow cooker with a ceramic insert makes sense to me, and they are so easy to clean anyway, there’s no need to use a non stick version.
Great choices here!
I love my slow cooker, but these options look like a perfect upgrade. Especially because the prices are SURPRISINGLY mild! They’re not nearly as expensive as I thought they would be. What are some of your favorite recipes to use with a slow cooker?
I’ll need to look into this. Thanks for sharing!
Hi Jordan thanks for checking out my site. I agree, there are some very affordable slow cookers that have the healthier ceramic insert option. I love making Osso Bucco in my slow cooker, you can check out my recipe under the recipe section. The meat comes out so tender and yummy, it’s like a restaurant quality dish. You get all the goodness of the bone marrow in the dish too, great gut healing properties.
This is indeed a very informative article , slow cooker are indeed a busy person’s best friend, the Crock-Pot 6 Quart WEMO Programmable Smart Wi-Fi Enabled Slow Cooker Definitely is my next buy because of its amazing features as it can be controlled from where ever I am, the programming and time flexibility of this pot is amazing .

Thank you for sharing your post on slower cookers. I have a slower cooker, the kind with a ceramic insert, and I didn’t know that this kind of corck pot was healthier for you to use. and I didn’t know they can be on for as long as 24 hours. But I see that the programmable one can. The Quart WEMO with Smart Wi-Fi could be good for someone who runs a catering company.
Hi Lenard, thanks for stopping by and leaving your comment. Sounds like you are already familiar with the benefits of using a slow cooker. Yes, some of the new models use smart Wifi technology to add new features.
Hi Ann,
Thank you for writing an excellent article about slow cookers. I had no idea until I read your article. After reading the article I learned about slow cooking. Slow cooking means less cooking and cooking for more time, where your cooker temperature will not exceed 300 degrees even if it is the highest level. The world has become very modern. Most people now cook in a cooker. My mother is a fan of Slow Cooker who will help her to reduce the pain. My mother will love to see this article because she prepares new food items every day. She always studies for new slow cookers and watches You Tube channel for learning it. I’m excited to use your slow cooker and it seems to be helpful in making delicious meals. I am going to share it with my family and I believe they will also like it. I have to bookmark your article for later use. I will read it again soon.
Hi there and thanks for stopping by. It seems like your mother is on to it and all about healthy cooking.
Being in some parts of the world has its own problem especially non-developed countries, imagine I never knew what slow cookers are before today. fortunately, right away, I do have the gadget to order items from Amazon, and because you have explained much on these valuable kitchen tools, I need to give a try. I personally would have gone for Hamilton Beach mainly because it enables cooking multiple foodstuffs in one point AIO!
Otherwise, thank you for the update!
Hi and thanks for stopping by. I’m glad you will be able to buy a slow cooker from Amazon and start enjoying the many benefits.
I enjoyed reading your article on slow cookers. I have owned one for a long time and it really is a time saver and cooks melt in the mouth food. Even my fussy kids like the casseroles and sausages that I cook in it. I do need to experiment a bit more with it and your post has given me some inspiration… thanks!
Hi Helen, thanks for your comments, agree…. slow cookers turn even the cheapest cuts of meat into tender, falling off the bone yumminess. If kids like your slow cooker food, that’s a great endorsement I reckon.
Great information, these slow cookers are state of the art compared to my old Costco version that I have had for 15 years, mine is getting a bit worn out now and your selection has some great features…Wifi control – Wow! I really like the idea of folding handles as my old version takes up so much room! Thanks again for the rundown, really useful. Mike
Hi Mike, thanks for stopping by. It seems a lot of people have very old slow cookers gathering dust at the back of a kitchen cabinet somewhere. The slow cooker has had a bit of a resurgence in popularity lately due to the ever increasing buy lifestyles we all lead. Yes I agree these new models are pretty advanced compared to the old models and offer all sorts of interesting features. Hope you find one you like, and update that old one!
Hey there, these are some great selections. Personally for a family of five I think the larger capacity one would suit us better. Thanks for going over the features of each one and non toxic is certainly a bonus.
Hi Amanda thanks checking out my site and leaving a comment. Definitely for a family you need one of the larger slow cooker options. Hope my review post helped you make a decision on which one to buy.
These are all great slow cooker options. I currently own a Crock-Pot 6 Quart WEMO Programmable Smart Wi-Fi Enabled Slow Cooker and it has been a great option for me. I initially assumed slow cookers were similar to pressure cookers but it has been of great use to me. Great article.
Hi there and thanks for your comment. Sounds like you are enjoying your choice of slow cooker.
These slow cookers are good . I think I will be purchasing hamilton beach due to the fact that one can use it manually and automatically. The most interesting part if this is that it is cheaper than I thought, this will be an addition to my kitchen. Thanks for sharing this informative and educative article. I’m really glad you brought this to my notice.
Hi thanks for commenting and I’m glad you found the Hamilton Beach slow cooker will fit your needs.
The Al Clad slow cooker looks like a good option for me. I have a slow cooker and it works great, I don’t think it’s any of the brands you mentioned and is also quite small. The size of the Al Clad will be very useful for family meals! However, my mum is disabled and my nan is getting too old to be carrying heavy, so it would be harder to use if I wasn’t there! I’m wondering what would you recommend me getting which is lighter and easy to carry but without a huge drop in size or quality? Thanks.
Hi there and thanks for stopping by. Honestly all slow cookers are a little heavy. But you don’t really need to move a slow cooker around much, you just place the ingredients into it and leave it to cook. You can then serve from it and once it’s empty of course the insert is lighter and easier to remove for cleaning.
There is a reason I am scarred of slow cookers as I feel there are some type of meals it might not be able to properly prepare especially if I decide to leave it in and come back to it some hours later,
Some meals that can easily get soaked with water making them very soft very soft might be difficult to cook with slow cookers.
Like for example if I decide to cook noodle with a slow cooker. The only way they would not get soaked is if they are prepared with a fast cooker but using a slow cooker and setting the timer for it to get ready some hours later might make it not come out good.
Not exactly sure what you mean???
I can’t ask for anything more than a healthier slow cooker. I am yet to be married, am still a bachelor. With this healthier slow cooker there is no need for me to go to bed with hunger as a result of the inability to cook after work because of tiredness and stress. One of these slow cooker will get the job done when it comes to cooking break fast and dinner. All I need is to time it and relax and enjoy my food. I am ordering for the Crock-Pot 6 Quart WEMO Programmable Smart Wi-Fi enabled slow cooker. With Wi-Fi enabled and WEMO app on my smartphone I can monitor the cooking progress. I really love this, you did a great job.
Hi there and thanks for leaving a comment. It looks like you’ve found the perfect slow cooker for your needs.

Hi there, yep they are a lifesaver after a long day working. It’s great to come home to some healthy food all ready to serve up.
Hi and thanks for stopping by. Yep, they really are a time saver and a lifesaver after a long day at work.
Hi and thanks for stopping by. Glad that this article is useful for you.
Hello! I have to say I learned something new today. I consider myself a health guru but I didn’t know a slow cooker is a way to detox! I’m definitely interested in a slow cooker now. Since my family is just me and my husband, I’d think the Cuisinart PSC350 3.5 Quart Slow Cooker would work perfectly!! Thanks for a great information!
Hi Saori, thanks for stopping by. I’m not sure about slow cookers being a way to detox LOL! But you’ll be able to avoid toxic chemicals if you choose one of those mentioned in my article with a ceramic insert rather than a non stick finish.
I thought I had lost this article because I had previously seen “best of slow cookers with ceraminc inserts ” and was eager to read it and then (these smart touch screen phones can be killjoy sometines), my finger touched something and I couldn’t find it anymore. Anything that has to do with healthy living is always very interesting to me and it’s easy to catch my attention.
Anyway Crock pots are fantastic. I didn’t know slow cookers could come with ceramic inserts as my now old spoilt slow cooker came with an aluminum insert. Knowing the benefits of cooking with ceramics, I’m glad I found this now, so my work is cut out for me, all the research I need to do before buying a new one, all done in this article with enough quality products to choose from. The Crock-Pot 6 Quart WEMO Programmable Smart Wi-Fi Enabled Slow Cooker seems like it would be my choice. At least I can see and control dinner from my phone. I like that it is large too, would really work for me. And thanks for the tips.
Thanks for stopping by and so glad you’ve found a slow cooker that will work for you.
Thank you for sharing ¨Looking For A Healthier Slow Cooker Option? ¨ Even though you reviewed Cuisinart PSC350 3.5 Quart Slow Cooker, I much prefer Cuisinart PSC650 6.5 Quart Slow Cooker.I´d say the main difference is the size, which is more convenient for me. Apart from being 6.5 Quart, it´s heavier 21.25 pounds and it measures 16.5x12x11.75 inches- 3-year warranty is the same. The housing unit is constructed of brushed stainless steel, and has two large chrome plated dome handles to make lifting secure and comfortable. A wrap around heating element ensures even heating throughout, and four large rubber feet keep the unit secure on the countertop. I would say both Cuisinart models are top for programmable convenience
Thanks for leaving a comment, looks like you found a slow cooker that will work for you.
My slow cooker literally just bit the dust yesterday. It was halfway through a batch of chili and just flipped off and never turned back on. I was so bummed when I got home cause my house smelled like chili but I had no idea how long it had been cooking.
I had to resort to dropping it on the gas stove instead and simmering it for hours in a regular old pan! Not really what I had planned, but it sufficed I guess.
So glad I found this article because I was in the market for a brand new crock pot and now I know just which one to get!
Nightmare! Particularly when you had no idea how long your dish had been cooking for. Hope you’ll find your new slow cooker from the products mentioned here.
Interesting list Ann,
I’m eyeing on the Crock-Pot 6 Quart WEMO, it looks really nice and that smart wifi part is definitely something new I’ve never come across in a home appliance. Using the app to check the slow cooker, that amazing as I can focus on other things around the house while I’m at it.
Hi thanks for stopping by. From readers comments it seems the Crock pot Wemo is a pretty popular choice. I hope you enjoy ising it if you make the purchase.
Perfect timing! Our slow cooker finally died recently after several years of use and my husband and I have just been living on microwavable dinners and oven baked pizzas. Reading your article made my mouth water. I decided I’m going back to slow cooking our meals with real meat and veggie stews.
Thanks for the guidance on the best ones on the market! Cheers!
Sue
Glad my review article helped get your tastebuds going. Healthy tasty stews will be much healthier too.
Awesome post! My girlfriend and I have been looking for healthy cooking options with the slow cooker. We got the slow cooker about a month ago as a gift and have loved using it. Unfortunately, we’ve been eating uhm, relatively NOT healthy foods so, and we didn’t even CONSIDER the interior lining of the crockpot and the toxicities thereafter. A ceramic lining would be ideal, i suppose.
I really like the Hamilton Beach 33957 5 Quart! It’s by far the most attractive slow cooker listed in my opinion, and the fact that it’s programmable is so nice. I might consider getting this one in the next couple of weeks, so it’s great i saw your review on it. thanks so much for the quality info! much appreciated ( :
Hi and thanks for commenting. A slow cooker is a great way to cook healthy food with very little effort. I hope you enjoy it.
I got rid of my slow cooker a while ago because I no longer wanted to cook in unsafe non stick cookware. I actually wasn’t aware that you could get decent slow cookers that had the ceramic insert! I am excited now, because I miss using the slow cooker, I will definitely be looking into getting one of these in the near future – good health and good food goes hand in hand!
Absolutely Josie, eating well plays a huge part in overall good health. Hope you buy another slow cooker, this time with the ceramic insert.
Not only have you brought to mind an excellent product but you have also made sure to answer my questions right in the article which is excellent! I was questioning the six hours in addition to the 20 hours. But you have answered that also as well I’ll faithfully follow your posts for updates on one of the products such as these!
Hi there and thanks for leaving a comment. I’m glad you found the post useful.
Hi there
A great article offering some very nice options, I myself regularly use my slow cooker, mainly out of laziness on my part I’ll admit. But my life is very busy and I don’t have much free time so for me using a slow cooker makes sense!, I do one or fro cooks a week and freeze!!. The ceramic inserts are a must, they it so easy to clean up afterwards not to mention them being so much safer. Nice options here and great level of information.
Thanks for your comments and glad to hear you already get the benefits of using a slow cooker.
Hi Ann, thanks for this beautiful post on healthier slow cookers. I have devoured the information on the post and I couldn’t help but to be amazed on possibilities of cooking slower for me. I do get home pretty late and stressed out which leaves me feeding on fast delivery meals but using a crock pot could be an awesome benefit for me. At least, I can get my food done while am not around. For me to do this, I’d have to go for the Crock-Pot 6 Quart WEMO. It seems like a very good option with its WiFi feature benefits for easy controlling. This is a very helpful article.
Hi and thanks for stopping by. I’m happy my article opened up some alternatives to ordering fast food delivery.
Wow! I thought you are only focusing on 3 topics, the chronic fatigue syndrome, adrenal fatigue and GUT health. I didn’t know that you are also catering this kinds of article, now I know.
You did a great job here because food is also connected to health and it is also related to your GUT health topics. This slow cooker is a big help maintaining our food to be fresh and warm. This product is also preventing the food to be spoiled.
This is my problem sometimes in the house if I cook a big bunch of food, some of it turned out to be spoiled food. I’ve wasted too many food which is not good.
Thank you very much for the information you gave. The article is very informative and I will check this out in Amazon.
Have a nice day!
Hi and thanks for taking the time to leave a comment. My site focuses on chronic fatigue syndrome, regaining your health and maintaining your health after recovery. As chronic fatigue syndrome is a multi factorial illness many things can cause it. I aim to bring attention to living life with a chronic illness, getting to the bottom of what is causing it and living a healthier lifestyle.
The CuisineArt cooker would be my top choice here, living in an apartment alone, it would be perfect for the space I have. Something that makes me prefer slow cookers to ovens and grills because, in my opinion, not only is the food far more edible, but you can so much more in a slow cooker in terms of adding flavor. I’ve always had greater results with slow cookers and being in the market for one, CuisineArt is definitely my best fit.
Thanks for stopping by and taking the time to comment. I agree, you can definitely get a lot of flavour from food cooked slowly. Glad you found one here you like.
Hello Ann,
Thanks for your excellent article. Actually, my mom also uses slow cookers in the kitchen. But after 5 months our slow cooker didn’t work nicely. So, my mom switches to microwave. I read your article fully and I found the best products of slow cookers. I search in Amazon and it’s not disappointed me. And now I tell my mom to again switch back to slow cookers. It also looks nice in the kitchen.
So, I want to suggest to everyone that, they can try slow cookers for cooking.
Thanks for write this informative article.
I’m happy my review article has prompted you to try another slow cooker.
I like slow cooker because the result is always awesome ( based on my long experience of eating slow cooked food from friends). But I never got one for myself. I never knew how to choose a good one.
So, after reading your post, I got an idea of what could be my first slow cooker. I will take Cuisinart PSC350 3.5 Quart Slow Cooker, the small one to start with. As I get use to it, maybe I will switch for a bigger one.
Thanks for sharing
Thanks for leaving a comment. My aim in writing the post was to give a selection of the best slow cookers with ceramic inserts around in varying sizes. Depends on your circumstances the size you need. The Cuisinart 3.5 quart size is definitely a good one to start with if you are single or have a small family.
Thanks for this great post. I appreciate that you’ve listed 4 models to consider.
I actually have the All-Clad unit, mainly because we’re an All-Clad kitchen. It’s great! If I had one wish, I’d love to have it integrate with my home and devices. To be able to monitor and control it via my phone or Alexa would be nice.
We used to be a Kitchenaid kitchen and I love their appliances. Still, I may have to check out the Crock-Pot model because it boasts that connectivity the others lack.
Thanks again,
Scott
Thanks for leaving a comment. Many commenters seem to love the connectivity of the Crock pot.
This is the post I was looking for. Not for me, but for my wife. She wants something like this for a while already, but to find a good one, it is kind of hard. They’re expensive, and not made of good quality’ at least, here in Belgium. So thanks a lot for sharing this, I’m going to show it to my wife right away!
Hi and glad this post is useful to you. I’m sure you’ll be able to find a slow cooker to suit your needs here.
Hi Ann.
Thank you so much for your helpful post. I have read your entire post as my mother was saying that she needs a good cooker for many days. You have nicely provided the description of slow cookers. You have given 5 options to choose the best cooker. You have also given the details about those cookers. I think this post is very much helpful to all to find out the perfect slow cooker for their home. As it helps me to know many things about the slow cooker, I am gonna share your post to others for their help.
Thank you so much for providing such a helpful post.
Hi and thanks for your comments, I hope your mother finds a slow cooker from this list to suit her perfectly.
Should I want to buy any slow cooker at all from this list, I will go for the Hamilton Beach 33957 5 Quart Programmable Slow Cooker. It just ticks all the boxes for me. I like the use of button as that would minimize any errors and also, I like the fact that it can cook for so long. As far as 10hours. I can surely put my food on when leaving for work and be back to consume it at night.. Great one
Happy to hear you found this information useful and thanks for stopping by.
I’m always in the market for a new slow-cooker! It’s my favorite way to make stews, roasts, and soups. The one I have is about on its last breath, so this article has me thinking I may need to get a new one! The price of the first one you listed threw me off guard, but upon further review, I completely understand why it’s higher priced! I appreciate the fact that you offer other options in your review. I’m off to check them out further! Thanks again!
Great to see you finding value from my posts. Unfortunately the less toxic slow cookers with ceramic liners do seem to be a little more expensive than their non stick counterparts, but they are well worth it I reckon.
I been looking for a healthier way to cook and when I came across your article it changed the way I look at cooking my healthier foods. I give you a lot of credit for finding all of this out. I can not thank you enough for doing this research because it helped me to lose more weight then I was trying to and because of that I feel blessed I happened to come across this one of a kind review.
Thank You,
Stevie B
Thanks for stopping by and leaving your comment.
I was looking to start my own family cooking very soon and didnt have an idea of what to start with and then i remembered my mother used to make use of slow cookers. I think that this will be a great goto for me to be able to cook the best of my own soups. You have listed here those with ceramic inserts. Which would you recommend for heavy cookinf for the whole family.
Hi there and glad to hear you are going to start using the slow cooking way of making healthy soups. If you are cooking for a family I suggest you choose one of the larger models. Check out the features of each before making your choice.
As a fan of Crock Pots/Slow Cookers, I was interested to read your blog. I have to say I never realised the complexity or the diversity of both brand and cost.
Looking at the reviews of the Slow Cooker that is ahead of its time and enabled by WiFi, truly astounding. I guess many people will find that an attractive option. Indeed it is impressive.
The details of each and every cooker gives the reader plenty of scope to review all of your information together with the reviews on Amazon.
I found that by the time I had finished reading I was seriously interested in the 6 quart Crock Pot.
Thank you for reviewing, I think as Autumn is now in full flow we will all start thinking about getting out our old and dusty crock pots and possibly consider replacing. Mine is over 18 years old so actually represent outstanding value for money.
I liked your information regarding ceramic inserts, as you say they are both a healthy option and can go straight to table looking not too shabby.
Cordelia
Really appreciate you stopping by and taking the time to visit. Wow ! 18 years reliable service from your slow cooker, what great value for money indeed. The wifi option seems to be the most popular version on this list, so many people have commented on it.
Oh this is very wonderfully done here and i have to agree that slow cookers are one of the best that every kitchen should have. My mum started using them to cook at home about three years ago and honestly, it brought a new touch to the cooking. There wasn’t the regular problem of undercooked foods. I think i should gift her one of these beauties.
I’m so glad you found this article useful and that you already experience the great benefits of regularly using a slow cooker.
Am a fans of slow cooker and I can boldly say I love the service am getting from it. It looks amazing to come home after a long hours work and find hot and fresh food ready to be served. Nothing can be so fulfilling like that. This is why I so much adore All Clad Programmable 6.5 Quart Slow Cooker With Ceramic Liner’. Although i got it as a gift from my mum during my convocation day but I must say I have been using it as if got it with my hard earned money. All these slow cookers look amazing and I fill like getting them all. The one that won’t stop fascinating me is the one using WiFi, great technology kitchen tool indeed. This is an enlightening review about different slow cooker collection we have. It will go a long way in helping people looking for the best options with best prices.
Thanks for stopping by and for your kind words about this article.
Hi, Ann.
Slow Cooker Option? Hmm… It’s a new concept for me and truly speaking, I heard it for the first time. I am still leaving at the age of Pressure Cookers.
Being a professional away from my family I need to prepare my food before going to work and Slow Cooker seems to be very promising. Thanks for sharing the list of best options – I will definitely try one.
Warm Regards,
Gaurav Gaur
Thanks for leaving a comment. Yes slow cookers are a boon for busy people, particularly if you are away from home all day, just set it before you leave for work.
I love the idea of having a ceramic insert in cookers because of it’s health benefits. There isn’t much quality cooker around, and the little that are available do not have a very good insert and worse, some sticks to the food. These list of slow cookers have made a mark with me already, not just by having such insert, but some of the qualities they possess.
Thanks for providing information about slow cookers and what I have liked about them is that they are easy to use in the way that you can add the ingredients, set the heat and timer and it cooks while you are busy doing other things which is something interesting and I have liked that of kitchenaid thanks very much
I love my slow cooker and use it a lot in winter to make soups and stews. It is so convenient to come home at night to a cooked meal and the lovely home-cooked smell permeating the house.
After reading this article, I was compelled to check if mine has a ceramic insert, and luckily it did. It is not as fancy as some of the later models that you show on this website, but at least it is not affecting the health of my family.
Next time I invest, I will definitely go for the Crock-Pot 6-Quat with Wi Fi as this will make life a breeze if you can control the pot from work.
So many cooker I have got have more of th non-stick insert and a over you can’t see through. This is why I’m drawn to the Hamilton Beach 33957 5 Quart Programmable Slow Cooker. I’m very much impressed by its features and its matches my taste for an idea cooker. I have had issues with cooker whose body get hot while cooking, does it also happen in this desired cooker of mine?
I think all slow cookers get a bit hot on the exterior.
That’s a wonderful review post on some wonderful crock pots.
I like the idea of programmable slow cookers in that one can set even the time when they’ll start cooking, and for how long. And with issues of health being a top priority consideration in modern times, your assurance of the safety of using ceramic pots is welcome.
I didn’t know that they do crack if temperatures change suddenly. My question is if they do crack, do they become totally faulty and in need of replacement or there are some repair services you could recommend?
Hi there you can buy replacement ceramic liners.
Wow! I am really excited for going through your post, I tend to believe this is all what my mum needs, I have been researching on reviews on slow cookers but until I came across your post now I feel I have the right and appropriate information to choose from the many varieties of the slow cookers, actually I have to choose the ceramic one, j thank you for sharing the affiliate attached link, this will make it easy in the purchase process, to ensure i receive the right product.
Thank you.
I appreciate you stopping by and leaving your kind comment, and happy this post has given you the information you need to make the right slow cooker choice.
Thank you for this awesome article. You really got me.
My time is limited because of my job and I really need a programmable cooker. This can help me to come home and enjoy my dinner without loosing time to cook. I’m looking for “All Clad Programmable 6.5 Quart Slow Cooker With Ceramic Liner” because of the large size and the big cooking hours (4 – 20 hours ) .
Keep in touch !

Thanks for stopping by and I hope this article convinces you to try cooking with a slow cooker, it is a very easy way to start cooking at home.
I love crock pots, they make cooking some dishes so easy! Once a week at least I use my Cuisinart crock pot to make dinner (roast beef usually with potatoes, onions and peppers). If anyone has never owned or at least tried cooking with a crock pot you should go ahead and pull the trigger now because you will LOVE it, I promise! My Cuisinart (mine is bigger than the Cuisinart PSC350 3.5 Quart) has taken a beating I use it so much and it keeps on ticking lol. Nice crock pot suggestions, though I am biased toward Cuisinart 🙂
It’s great when you find a brand that you love, good to hear you you’ve had lots of use from your Cuisinart Slow cooker. Thanks for visiting my site and taking the time to leave a comment, it’s appreciated.
Thank you so much for the awesome post!! My wife has been wanting a slow cooker for so long now! I have been wanting to get her one for Christmas and trying to find the best one. I really like the Hamilton Beach 33957 5 Quart Programmable Slow Cooker because of all the features it has, and it has a warranty. Plus, my wife and me have a blender and juicer that is Hamilton Beach and they work great!
Glad to hear you are happy with the Hamilton Beach brand, so cool when you find a brand you really like.
Slow cookers, are one of the best cooking aids, ever invented,we had an old type, without any electronics, but it did a wonderful job,and cooked many tasty meals, easy to clean, just wipe the outside with a wet cloth, and wash the inner and lid in the sink.
The All Clad 6.5 quart, slow cooker is the largest, of those presented,it has a ceramic inner, and a programmable timer, so you can start it, at a convenient time for you, it will start cooking while you are at work, or shopping, and has a 26 hour cycle,it has three temperature settings, high, low, and warm, this last setting,is so that when the food is cooked, the machine automatically reverts to warm, so that it stays hot for serving, this cooker has a lifetime warranty.
The Cuisineart 3.5 quart slow cooker is the smallest cooker, and is suitable for a single person, or small family,it has a ceramic insert and a glass lid,it has a 24 hour timer, with an LCD display, and it has 3 settings, simmer, low,and high, when finished cooking,it switches to warm until you are ready to serve,as with the others clean the outer casing with a damp cloth, and wash the lid,and inner in the sink, this cooker carries a 3 year limited warranty.
Guidelines for all the cookers are simple, 1/ never fill the cooker more than two thirds full. 2/always thaw you meat before cooking .3/don’t open the lid while cooking. 4/chop all your vegetables to equal size. 5/ put the right amount of liquid in,( it won’t boil off) 6/ be very careful in handling the ceramic insert when hot,it can crack if you put it on a cold marble top, and don’t put it in the fridge while hot.
Thanks for stopping by and leaving your comment, it seems you are a seasoned slow cooker convert. Good to see.
Awesome list you’ve got here. Hamilton Beach 33957 5 Quart Programmable Slow Cooker is a perfect for any kitchen/event – it has great functionality. The very thing I love about this is that you can set it to any time/temp setting and it will kick over to “warm” after that set time. Easy to clean and use. Simplest yet most advanced slow cooker I’ve owned.
Regards!
Happy to hear you are pleased with your Hamilton Beach slow cooker.
Hi I am in the market for a slow cooker as I am now a single working father and it was suggested to me to purchase a slower cooker to cook my meals for the family in while I am at work. The All Clad Programmable slow cooker sounds like the one I might consider as its quite big which will help with cooking for my family.
Thanks for your comment, I have the All Clad programmable slow cooker and despite its slightly higher price tag I love it. You can read my review of this model for more info.
Hiya Ann,
I like the point that you were making regarding detoxing of cookware. My family and I have been speaking frequently of that very thing lately. With all the health concerns cause by toxics already in or on our foods (i.e. pesticides and the like), we are beginning to explore more informed alternatives on how and in what we cook. Your statements reminded of being vigilant in the regard, not just for me but to younger members of our household.
Thank you for highlighting the benefits of ceramic inserts. I agree that in addition to it’s slow cooking value, the ceramic inserts are attractive enough to use as servers.
I have to say that I like the cool, high tech design appearance of the Hamilton Beach 33957, although it has the stoneware insert. Haha!
Best.
Glad to hear you are joining in the ‘detox your cookware’ brigade. Looks like you have found a slow cooker you like. Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment.
Hi thanks for your nice post. I used a quick pot, but I have found many crock pot here. Before that I never truly heard about it. I am very familiar to instant cookers and dislike to cook more slow. Reviewing your article, I understand well, since I can cook slow, within this time I complete many of my works.
The Crock-Pot 6 Quart WEMO would be my best choice throughout the in your post. I can program it, use its WiFi feature. This amazing feature would attract more people to pick this.
Thumbs up to you for your sharing.
There’s only the two of us and I am looking for the right slow cooker that is easy to use for some basic cooking. Eating out is really expensive and they don’t taste all that good sometimes. I inherited a recipe book from Grandma before she passed away and would love to give it a try with a new cooker. I think I would go for the Cuisinart 3.5 quart. Thanks for the recommendation.
Great to see you’ve found the right slow cooker. Have fun testing out all those recipes from your Grandma.
